HISTORY
The Beagle's history is deeply rooted in its role as a scent hound, making it one of the most iconic breeds in this category. Originating in England, Beagles were developed primarily for hunting small game, especially rabbits and hares. Their history can be traced back to the Roman times, but the breed as we know it today was more formally developed in the 1830s. These dogs were prized for their keen sense of smell and ability to work both independently and as part of a pack. Beagles were not only used for hunting but also played a role in detecting prohibited agricultural imports and foodstuffs in quarantine around the world, showcasing their remarkable scent tracking abilities.
